Jerry Selinger HomeFront Invitational Annual Golf Tournament

golf2Fore! Welcome to the Eighth Annual Jerry Selinger Invitational Golf Tournament, which will be held this year at River Spirit Golf Club on Tuesday, June 17th.

Jerry P. Selinger, Q.C., Calgary’s former Chief Crown Prosecutor, was deeply interested in issues of social justice.  After several years of private practice in British Columbia, he joined the Crown Prosecutors’ Office in Calgary in 1978 and was appointed Chief Crown Prosecutor in 1998. Jerry died on May 2nd, 2000 as a result of complications arising from primary pulmonary hypertension. Jerry is fondly remembered for his positive energy, integrity, warmth, humility and courage.

Jerry was committed to the delivery of justice in our community through his active involvement in a number of important initiatives. One of these was HomeFront.  HomeFront reflects Jerry’s goal to ‘break the cycle of violence’, and brought to fruition his dream of a specialized court and treatment for those who commit violence and abuse. Shortly after his death, HomeFront established the Jerry P. Selinger Memorial Fund as a tribute to Jerry and his vision. This Fund contributes to HomeFront’s initiative to provide specialized assistance to victims of domestic violence and their families.  As well, a portion of the fund is directed to the Jerry P. Selinger Awards to honour and celebrate frontline workers and volunteers who have shown courage and dedication in their fight against domestic violence.

As HomeFront moves forward, the tournament will continue to raise funds for this very important and successful organization.
